Slice thickness accuracy is an important element in the quality control program for any CT scanner. The slice thickness requires additional emphasis when the scanner is used for quantitative applications such as bone densitometry, lung nodule analysis or other tissue comparative diagnostic techniques.

The CIRS Slice Thickness Gauge was designed as a quick inspection tool. It is manufactured from epoxy resins. There are 2 sets of 1 mm steps, each set is comprised of 13 steps. As you look at the gauge, you will notice the steps are offset. On one side the steps will be ascending and on the other side the steps will be descending. This unique feature allows for quick inspection of the system slice thickness.

The gauge is provided with the Model 004 Bone Mineral Simulator or can be purchased separately. The gauge is not designed for service or calibration purposes. In the event an error is discovered, contact your CT service representative.

Quantitative CT analysis is heavily dependent on accuracy of slice thickness.
